2011 Row Robin Finished!

I got my quilt back! OK, I received it in the mail Friday night - but have been working like crazy and this is the first opportunity to post any pictures.

My quilt name is "Springtime out in the Garden".  The ladies have blown me away with their creativity and sewing skills.  My row really looks like an amateurs next to theirs.  I am not complaining, I have come along way this year!  The last quilt I worked on was definitely my best.

Now I need to decide how to finish it.  I am thinking of doing one wide border row all the way around.  I just need to figure out what color.  Any ideas?

Row Robin - Southwest Theme

I did it!  I just finished my last quilt row for the 2011 Row Robin I was participating in.  Judy, the person's quilt I had, picked Southwest as her theme.

When doing the row robin, the quilt top owner starts their quilt out with the first row and establishes their theme.  The send it to the next person in the circle.  We each add a row using their theme in our own interpetation.  Really gives you a chance to do something you might normally do and is a fun way to meet and make new friends.  We started this December 15, 2010 and we had to Feb 15th to finish the first row and send it on to the next person.  Each row is 12 X 60.

This was definitely the best row I completed.  I am a pretty new quilter/sewer and I would have the darnest time getting everthing to measure up right.  I really took the time squaring up as I went along.  Each of my 12" blocks were 9 patch units.  I made sure that during each stage I trimmed and measured.  It takes a little longer but it is sure worth it!

My only regret is that I didn't use a muted background fabric.  I love my row by itself but when I saw some of the other rows when I went to join my row seems a bit loud.  Oh well, it is a color celebration!

p.s. I should be getting my row back soon too, I will post pictures when I get it. :)

Row Robin

Mailed the quilt that I was working on for my Row Robin today.  Boop really let us do whatever we wanted to do. Our favorite block, color, theme,  etc. Everybody really took a queue from what she did for her first row, Betty Boop and blues.  I love the zig zag pattern I am seeing all over the place, really want to do a whole quilt with this pattern, so I decided to do this for my favorite block with her blue theme.

I think it turned out really well.

SNEAK PEEK...I have already received the next quilt I am to work on, got it on Saturday (this is the last one and then I get mine back). It is "Something Southwestern".  I have so many ideas for this row.  I took a snap shot of this great fabric that is already on the quilt.  I love it!  Such vibrant color.

Row Robin - Mardi Gras

Working on a new quilt row for the 2011 Row Robin. This person's theme is Mardi Gras! I have already completed 1 block, golden wedding ring.

I really took my time with this one even though it is a paper pieced block I wanted to try and make my fabric last. This seems to be my biggest issue with paper piecing, so much wasted fabric. So I measured each section then added 1/2 inch and blocked it. I then created templates for each section and cut the fabric. I am saving this block and all of the pieces in a clear plastic envelope in case I want to do it again. All of the hard work has already been done!

I really like the black with the color, it really makes the color POP.

I will be catching up on my House Block of the Months tonight. I am a few months behind and did get a little intimidated by one of the blocks so I kind of put it off. Pamela, The Casual Quilter, is also doing this BOM series. You have to see how hers is progressing, I love the fabric she is using, check it out here. If you don't already follow her you should!

I did finally finish row 2 of the Jewel Row Robin quilt last night. Mailing it today and it is a good thing because today is the deadline! I could have had it done a week ago but I ended up making 2 of the blocks over again. I am learning alot in this process.

Comment below if you are going to do the Friday Night Sew-In, I can't wait to see what everyone did on Saturday.

Row Robin 2nd row

I have been working on the second row of another person's quilt since March.  There theme is "Jewels".  I will be mailing what I have done on Monday.

Here is a look at the first starter row.

Here is what I have done. (5 blocks)

1 Friendship Circle Block

2 Green toned Arrow Mosaic Blocks

2 Red toned Arrow Mosaic Blocks

I was telling the other ladies in my group that I still have a lot to learn.  Not to mentione years of practice ahead of me. :)  I learned that I can't seem to cut accurate measurements for the life of me and I am horrible at sewing a 1/4" seam.  I need to mail this on by Monday but have decided that I am going to redo one of the green blocks this weekend.  The block is just coming up to short and I can't make it work.  Luckly I have some fabric leftover.

By the end of 2011 I will be an expert at seam ripping and hopefully better at everything else. :)

I do love this fabric though!!!!

2011 Row Robin

I am really stepping out of my comfort zone this year.  I joined a Row Robin at the QuiltingBoard.com.  We were assigned our groups in December with 5 members to a group.  I have been teamed up with an amazing group of ladies who are all so talented and helpful.  :)

How does a Quilting Row Robin work?  First, you pick a theme for your quilt, I chose Springtime/Gardening.  You sew your first row which has to be 12.5 x 60.5 when complete.  You do have 2 months to complete each row.  Our first deadline for row 1 was Feb 20th.  You had to have to the next person by this date. Now whoever gets your row will create row 2, with the same dimensions, using your theme.  Once the complete their row they will sew it to the row that is already there.  I also included sashing strips to be sewed in between each row.  Once done they send your quilt to the next person.

The quilt row theme that I received from someone else, after completing and mailing mine, is "Jewels".  OMG, what gorgeous colors!  So I have already purchased the fabric and it washed and pressed. Picking the fabric for this one was so much fun.  I have designed out the row, now I just need to start sewing.  I will need to be done with this row and have it mailed by April 20th.  The next quilt I will receive I will be adding row # 3 and their theme is "Mardi Gras".  The last two quilts I receive before getting mine back are a "Southwest" theme and a "Favorite Things" theme.  The Favorite Things quilt will be each person who works on the quilts favorite things.  I will post as I add to every one's quilt.  Below you will find pictures of the row I did for my quilt Springtime in the Garden
